Each of the United States has special symbols that are meaningful to its citizens. This state bird learning activity will help your child identify the bird chosen by each state.
State symbols represent significant things about a state. These things are usually related to a state’s heritage, natural treasures, and other special things.
Every state has its own unique collection of symbols. Such symbols include a state bird, flower, tree, animal, song, motto, and even a gemstone.
Use this printable to help your child become familiar with state symbols and why we have them.
You can use this printable in a few different ways. You can also choose from several different versions depending on your child’s skill level.
The first page features a map of the United States with each state’s name printed inside it. The birds are found in a bank beneath the map, all in full color.
Your child will read each bird’s name from the bank and the state where it is found. Next, they will locate the state on the map and color it in.
Each map has the same instructions, but more advanced students can use the blank maps.
