I don’t know about you…but my school year has not turned out the way I planned.
I am in desperate need of a fresh start. I have spent far too many mornings sleeping in later than I should. I have spent far too many days rushing through school so that I can run errands or finish up some project I am working on. I have spent far too many afternoons loading the dishwasher instead of creating science experiments or curled up on the couch engrossed in a magical story.
I am not big on resolutions, but I have decided that this new year is a perfect time to re-evaluate our schooling and set some new and renewed goals.
Because I know.
I know the days are fleeting. I know the years will pass too quickly. I know they are learning, but I can do better. I will do better.
Instead of just getting through it, I want to give it all I have. What else could possibly be more important than nurturing the hearts and minds of my children?
And there is one word that fills my mind – grace. Each goal we set must be saturated in grace. There will be days when I fail. There will be days when math is just not working, or the house really does need an overhaul…and grace is big enough to cover those days – like an umbrella, deflecting all of the thoughts that tell me I am a failure or not good enough.
I have prayed over the goals I will be setting and believe that God will bless my efforts.
Here is my list of {grace-saturated} goals for 2014:
1. Wake up BEFORE children/spend time with God
2. Breakfast ready by 8:00 a.m./family devotions at breakfast
3. Chores done/school starts by 9:00 a.m.
4. 30 minutes of reading time in evening
5. Focus more on Preschool for B
6. More Science time
Some of these are normal parts of our day which just need to get “renewed” and some of them are areas in which we are struggling. Also, our schedule is different from others’ because my husband works in the evenings…so be sure to set goals that work for your family’s schedule. I have printed my goals and am placing them on the fridge so I can see them every day!

Thank you for posting this. I have been beating myself up that this year so far has not turned out like if should have. We have fell behind in some areas and with homeschooling, running my own at home business, and other life problems I get so overwhelmed. Glad to know there are other HS mamas feeling the same way

Thanks for this goal setting sheet. I am happy to see the verse from Isaiah, because that was our promise verse for this year. It would be a good thing to write my goals along with this verse! What a blessing. Thanks Emily 🙂
