Learning sight words helps kids improve their reading speed and fluency. This free second grade sight word activity will help your child expand their bank of sight words.
When children begin reading, they sound out each letter of a word to read it.
Memorizing sight words makes reading easier.
Readers recognize and read the words by sight. They no longer need to sound words out.
This approach decreases the time it takes to read and helps develop articulation and expression.
Using a sight word game is a great way to help your early readers add words to their memory bank.
To get started, print and laminate your game boards. Gather a die and game pieces to use for each player.
The first player will roll the die and move the number of spaces.
When a player lands on a word square, there are three ways to continue:
- Say the word aloud.
- Use the word in a sentence.
- Write the word on the page provided.
These exercises will help familiarize your child with the sight words in this activity.
The first player to reach the “Finish” square is the winner!
