Our little ones can be very inquisitive about the sun, moon, and stars. Feed their curiosity about outer space with a hands-on preschool solar system activity.
Outer space and all its wonders are a beautiful example of God’s artistry in creation. The sun, moon, stars, and other cosmic things show a different side of His mastery.
The solar system also gives us a perfect opportunity to teach our children about the power of God.
Job 26:7 says that God “hangs the earth upon nothing.” Everything stays in place because God made it so.
This activity will help your smaller children understand the positions of the sun and planets.
To get started, you’ll need playdough, a sharpie, and a piece of posterboard or aluminum foil. You can make playdough very easily if you don’t have any on hand.
Draw a circle in the center of your background for the sun. Draw the rings around the sun to represent the orbits of the other planets, and label them.
Use a picture for size and color reference. Shape your sun and planets with playdough and place them onto their orbits.
