The holidays are behind us, but there are a lot of winter days still ahead. Brighten up a gloomy indoor day with a sparkly homemade snow slime activity.
Kids love hands-on activities that capture their interest. Making homemade slime is a great way to teach about a variety of subjects while still having fun.
One of the key learning opportunities in making slime is STEM! We see the reaction when different materials are mixed together, and watch the transformation.
Observation and analysis of slime are more ways to learn. We can discuss what we see, feel, and smell as we combine ingredients and record our findings.
To make your slime, you will need PVC glue, contact lens solution with boric acid, and baking soda.
You probably have baking soda at home in your kitchen. You can save a few dollars by using a store-brand contact lens solution.
Observe how the boric acid reacts with the baking soda and changes the glue molecules. It makes your compound stretch instead of sticky!
Add any type of glitter you wish, with snowflakes or other wintery sequins. Store your slime in an airtight container.
