Making various ways to count to ten was challenging for my son. These FREE St. Patrickʻs Day make-ten mats will be a great addition to your holiday learning to help kids develop ten frame skills.
This make-ten mats activity is low prep and adorable for your ids on this St. Patrickʻs Day holiday in homeschool.
The activity will also help you incorporate ten frames in your math lessons in order to develop number sense for the base ten system of counting.
While using fingers and guessing can be effective, kids really respond to visually seeing the numbers to compose and decompose the number ten.
Kids tend to learn more quickly when they can visualize ways to make the number ten with other items/numbers.
Getting familiar with making the number ten results in an easier transition to adding and subtracting larger numbers.
These make ten mats have two different versions. One has a missing addend for kids to find, and the second version has the entire equation blank so kids write each addend to make ten.
