The California Gold Rush was a mass migration bringing 300,000 people to the state. Of California. It began at the beginning of 1848 when a man named James W. Marshall actually found gold in a small piece of land at Sutter’s Mill Coloma.
Did you know that it was during this time that this group of people was coined the gold-seeking forty-niners? Yes, that is right, the name of the San Francisco 49ers was from this very time. This is a fun and interesting part of our country’s history.
