If you are teaching about Cinco de Mayo to your kids this year, then you will know that May 5th is more celebrated in the United States than in Mexico, but that’s OK.
Early on May 5, 1862, 6,000 French troops attached the Mexican city of Heróica Puebla de Zaragoza in an attempt to conquer it.
The Mexican soldiers were outnumbered, but they fought back with all their might and by early that evening, the French fell back.
So, this win is celebrated and we use it as a time to celebrate the Mexican people as well.
