Rice Krispie Treats Recipe
My family recently got back from vacation and had THE BEST EVER, I kid you not best ever, Rice Krispie Treats. Oh my goodness they were perfect. They were hardened, yet gooey and soft, with incredible tasting chocolate on top.
I informed my husband that I would be attempting to duplicate this recipe’s awesomeness, and he sacrificially offered to taste test.
If your kids are old enough and responsible enough, this is a great first stove-top recipe. It was the first one I remember doing as a child, and makes an excellent opportunity to teach kitchen safety, since you’re cooking on such a low heat. Make sure hair is pulled back and clothing is out of the way, and be sure to stay right by your kids if they’re helping. A step stool and a short pot is helpful, so little arms are high enough to stir.
Now, to the rice crispy treat recipe. After great research (ie, googling recipes) it seems that everyone’s favorite Rice Krispie treat is NOT the recipe that graces the back of the box, but rather a version with an additional cup of marshmallows, and I must say I’m very pleased with the results.
Click the video below to see some cute kiddos (ie: mine) help make our recipe.
The Ingredients
4 tbsp of butter
5 cups mini-marshmallows
5 3/4 cups Rice Krispies
Melting Chocolate (I used an entire bag)
Sprinkles
The Steps
The main difference in this recipe is the extra marshmallows and the melting chocolate. Buy the good stuff, http://amzn.to/1J8NG9p (ad) you won’t be disappointed.
Melt butter in a pan over low heat, slowly add in marshmallows. Stir constantly until fully melted. Keep the heat on low!
After the marshmallows are melted, combine gently, with the rice krispies.
Press the mix into a pan (or 2).
Melt the chocolate according to package direction, and pour over the top of the rice krispies.
Add sprinkles.
Let cool in the refrigerator for one hour.
Slice and enjoy.
