Measurement is an important concept for children to learn. Add this preschool measurement learning activity to your lessons about measuring.
Learning to measure things is a fun part of preschool math.
Once children learn the concept, they will try to measure everything they see. It is a joy to watch them measure things all by themselves.
In one fun measuring activity, we used a 3-inch length of yarn. My son spent an hour measuring the yarn lengths of the table, chairs, toys, and stairs were.
This activity is a great way to introduce measuring to preschool children.
To do this activity, print the number of sheets you need onto cardstock. Laminate each copy if you wish.
Gather 10-15 counting cubes or any other manipulatives that are identical in size and shape. They should be square-shaped and resemble counting cubes.
Invite your child to place one manipulative on the end of one item, and repeat until the pencil is covered.
Have your child count them up and see how long the item is. Repeat these steps for each item.
Your child will enjoy learning to measure all by themselves!
