If you have homeschooled for any period of time, you may have heard the term “number sense” pretty often. As you teach your lessons in early math, use this free spring number sense activity to help.
Number sense to me meant just making sense of numbers. Simple enough right? For us, it’s quite simple.
However, teaching our young learners math, we must take into account that they do not have our background knowledge to also think number sense is a simple concept.
Number sense is a group of skills that help kids understand the whole concept of numbers.
With good number sense activities, kids can learn about quantities, grasp the idea of more or less (larger/smaller), recognize single items to groups, understand symbols representing quantities, number comparisons, and order of numbers in a list.
Spring is almost here and this activity will bring number sense and April showers together to celebrate the season.
