Keep your LEGO fans busy and thinking creatively with these free printable LEGO challenge cards! Each card presents a fun building prompt that challenges kids to use their imagination and their bricks to solve a problem or create something new.
How LEGO Challenge Cards Work
Each card gives your child a specific building scenario or task. Unlike step-by-step LEGO instructions, these are open-ended prompts — there’s no single right answer. Your child reads the challenge, then builds their own unique solution using whatever LEGO bricks they have available. This open-ended approach builds creativity, problem-solving skills, and engineering thinking.
Ways to Use These Cards
Daily challenge: Pull one card each day as a morning warm-up or afternoon activity. It gives LEGO time structure without making it feel like a chore.
Challenge jar: Print the cards, cut them apart, and put them in a jar. When kids say “I’m bored,” they pull a card and build. Problem solved.
Sibling competition: Give each child the same challenge card and see how differently they approach it. Compare builds at the end — kids love seeing how their siblings interpreted the same prompt.
Writing tie-in: After building, have kids write a paragraph describing what they made, how it works, and why they designed it that way. This sneaks in language arts practice alongside STEM.
Photo documentation: Take a picture of each completed challenge. At the end of the month, you’ll have a visual portfolio of your child’s creativity and engineering skills.
