Looking for a fun way to stay engaged during Valentine’s week without all the hearts and cupids? Then step right up and learn about one of the earliest amusement park rides invented and the person for which it is named with this FREE ferris wheel STEM mini-unit.
Everything you need for a fun, Ferris wheel STEM mini-unit is included. Start the mini-unit off by learning about George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. He debuted his invention on February 14, 1859.
It would later become known as the Ferris wheel. It was based on a challenge from the engineering firm Ferris worked with to create ‘something novel, original, daring and unique’. The Ferris Wheel STEM mini-unit will let your homeschoolers do the same.
Upper elementary through high school students will learn how Ferris wheels have been designed throughout history, and then develop a design of their own wheel.
Working individually or as a team, students plan their wheel, execute construction, troubleshoot, evaluate their own work, and present it.
This Ferris wheel STEM mini-unit is perfect for a science fair project or science presentation. This is a fun alternative Valentine’s Day lesson for the typical ‘mushy, gushy’ or ‘lovey-dovey’ Valentine activities.
