It’s almost Christmas time and schedules are busy, but this simple STEM experiment is a quick and easy one to do. Gather your younger learners and try this Christmas oil and water activity.
You’ll only need a jar and a couple of ingredients to do this experiment.
Have your children add water to the jar, then guide them as they pour oil into a separate container. Next, have them slowly add drops of food coloring to the oil and mix it together.
They’ll be amazed at what happens when they add the oil and food coloring mixture to the water! Explain the basic principles of mixing oil and water as they watch the oil bubbles in the jar.
STEM activities are not only fun and interesting for all ages, they are also learning opportunities. These activities encourage creativity, analysis, problem-solving, collaboration, and other skills.
We use STEM every single day in many areas of life. Simple things like baking muffins, blowing up a balloon, enjoying a fire in the fireplace, use STEM.
