Sooner or later, the questions start: “How do we know any of this is true?” Maybe it’s your nine-year-old at lunch or your teen after a conversation with a friend, and you’re not sure where to begin. Why Believe? is a free online apologetics curriculum for grades 3–12 that walks through the reasons for the Christian faith, one question at a time. There’s no account, no cost and no ads.
What’s Included
Every lesson is a web page that opens on a phone, a tablet or a projector, so there’s nothing to print. The lessons come in three tracks:
- Explorer (grades 3–5): 14 short, illustrated lessons, each about eight minutes to read aloud, ending with a quiz
- Foundations (grades 6–8): 22 lessons with key terms, discussion questions and quizzes
- Advanced (grades 9–12): 20 lessons on the formal arguments, with primary sources and discussion questions
Topics include whether God exists, where right and wrong come from, how reliable the Bible is, the historical evidence for Jesus, the resurrection, why there is suffering, and how to tell what’s true. You’ll also find a homeschool guide, a Sunday school guide, and every lesson in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, French and Portuguese.
Who It’s For
Christian families who want to go beyond what they believe to why they believe it will find a lot to work with here. The three tracks run from grade 3 through grade 12, so younger kids and teens can each work at their own level. The site describes itself as non-denominational, and its Sunday school guide suggests using it alongside your Bible teaching, not in place of it.
How to Use It
- Several ages at once: the homeschool guide matches one topic across all three tracks, so each child reads at their own level in the same week and you talk it over together.
- One track straight through: the guide also has a year plan for each track if your kids are close in age.
- Check understanding: use the built-in quizzes and discussion questions, or ask your child to explain an argument in their own words.
- High school: the guide is upfront that the site alone isn’t a high school credit, and it outlines how to build a worldview or apologetics course around the Advanced track.
- Sunday school or co-op: the Sunday school guide includes week-by-week plans and a simple outline for a forty-minute class.
