You want your kids to grow up loving the great stories, but planning a literature study from scratch takes time most of us just don’t have. Meet the Classics shares free classic book printables for ages 6–9, with discussion questions, character cards and day-by-day unit studies for gentle favorites like Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Heidi and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Most of them download free with no sign-up.
What’s Included
Each of those five books has three free PDFs:
- Discussion questions: three questions for every chapter (remember, think and talk), plus big-idea questions about the whole story
- Character cards: cut-out cards with an illustration and a short description of each character (the Little Women set has eleven, from Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy to Laurie)
- A unit study: a day-by-day plan with one chapter a day, its vocabulary words, an activity and a talk question, ending with a big-ideas day
You’ll find the same three printables for several Jane Austen novels and a few other titles too, plus a Pride and Prejudice coloring page. The questions and plans follow the chapters of Meet the Classics’ own retellings for kids, so chapter numbers may not match a different edition.
Who It’s For
Young readers and listeners ages 6–9 are the sweet spot here, and that’s the age the unit studies are written for. They work as a read-aloud for younger kids or as independent reading for confident readers, and the unit studies plan on about 30 minutes a day. Book lengths vary, so some plans run longer than others.
How to Use It
- Read-aloud companion: pick one book and use the talk questions after each chapter.
- Retelling game: lay out the character cards and have your child tell the story back to you.
- Literature block: follow a unit study for a ready-made plan with no prep beyond printing.
- Book club or co-op: use the big-idea questions to get a group of kids talking.
