I am a 30 year-old mom of (soon to be) 4 kids. We homeschool and we are also DEBT FREE!
It has been a long road and, to be honest, God did most of the work. But since we are called to tell the world what he has done in our lives, here is our story:
My husband and I started our marriage with $80,000 in debt. Huge, right? I was a stay-at-home mom and he was a police officer. Dan was working very hard but only bringing home about $35,000 annually.
Shortly before the birth of our second child we felt God place his finger on that tender spot in our hearts concerning our debt. We knew he had a better plan for us and we began to make steps toward becoming debt free.
Very SMALL steps.
Fast forward another year–we decided to invest in Financial Peace University. It was AMAZING! Dave Ramsey gave us hope that there was a way out of the mess we were in and he (Dave) showed us practical steps to attaining our goal.
We started walking it out and in a year and a half we paid off nearly $20,000!
Then, my husband’s aunt got sick. She had a heart attack and several strokes and passed away in 2011. She was very close to our family, but did not have one of her own. She never married and spent her whole life as a school teacher.
After she passed away, we found out that she had set aside money for each of her 3 nephews (my hubby and his 2 brothers). She had managed to save $80,000 for each of her nephews!
That money wiped out our debt and allowed us to give over and above.
Only God could have orchestrated something so wonderful.
We are living testimonies to the fact that it is vital to follow God’s way when it comes to our money (no debt, good stewardship, and tithing) and when we have shown ourselves faithful, God takes over.
