Welcome back to the 2nd annual event of 10 Days of Homeschooling for Free and Frugal. You can read the entire series from the beginning on the Homeschooling for Free and Frugal series beginning post.
This post is by Annette of In All You Do.
Did you know that homeschooling is quickly becoming the fastest growing schooling option in the U.S.? When I began thinking about Homeschooling our oldest I jumped into the deep end – feet first and quickly found myself drowning. I wasn’t even able to tread water with all the overwhelming resources, curriculum choices and different avenues to take. I was completely L-O-S-T!! The first year we did a book for phonics, A Beka readers, all the free printables I could find and some generic Kindergarten books to keep us on track. But as we neared the end of the year, I still had no idea what I was doing.
It wasn’t until about mid-March that I finally got a real grasp on what I wanted out of our homeschooling experience. It was then that I found Jamerrill at Holy Spirit-Led Homeschooling and Amy Roberts at Raising Arrows who frequently blogged about their homeschooling experiences that I was finally able to wrap my head around what I wanted and what I felt God was leading me to do in our homeschooling.

How to Make Educational Printables
Make-Your-Own Printables
If you can’t find what you’re looking for in already-made {FREE} printables, have no fear, there are a number of websites where you can make-your-own!! Here are some of my favorites:
www.toolsforeducators.com Use these free worksheets to print, game makers, and programs for teachers to make and print teaching resources with pictures or classroom materials for kids. They are simple, but beautiful, versatile and powerful. Tools for Educators includes Puzzle makers of all kinds (word search, crossword, mazes), games (dominoes, bingo, dice), Spelling Worksheet Maker & Reading Sheet Wizard, Free Writing, Spelling and Tracing Worksheet Maker, Certificate Templates, Word Bank Worksheet Creator, Spaghetti String Worksheet generator, Handout Creator and Listening Test Worksheet Makers.
www.stickersandcharts.com is a great place to find printable stickers, behavior charts, chore charts and classroom management ideas for kids.
Handwriting Worksheets is a great place to make-your-own handwriting sheets and copywork where you can choose your style of writing.
At Fun Fonix you can create a 100% customizable phonics (choose from hundreds of images) worksheets for K-2. You can also find workbooks and online games to help reinforce the phonics they learn.
TLS Books has some great resources available on their site. They have them nicely organized by grade or subject, which makes them easy to find.

Of course Free Homeschool Deals has a HUGE collection of free homeschool worksheets and printables!
Free Homeschool Planners and Record Keeping
In order to have a successful year of homeschooling, you’ll need a great planner!!! Here are a few I like.
Living Well Spending Less has a wonderful Homeschool Planner
Donna Young Homeschool Planner Sets has several different options
Whatever you choose to use, don’t be afraid to keep your options open. Change it up when you hit a plateau or it’s just not working. I’ve changed and/or added to our curriculum throughout the year as I see subjects we need to work more on or need to tweak and change directions.
