Looking for free Bat Week printables? Bat Week runs October 24–31, and it’s the perfect excuse to head underground with your kids, no flashlight required. The National Park Service shares a free 24-page Junior Cave Scientist activity booklet for ages 5–12+. Kids explore caves and karst landscapes, meet the bats and other creatures that live there, and learn how to protect these fragile places.

What’s included
- A 24-page activity booklet from the National Park Service.
- Activities on how caves form, cave types, cave-dwelling animals and the light zones of a cave.
- Bat pages, including a bat-and-moth activity for a group of 3 or more.
- Puzzles, including a word search, plus “Speleo-Facts” about caves across the U.S.
- A Junior Ranger pledge and a sticker badge page at the end of the book.
Who it’s for
Activities are marked by age (5–7, 8–11, 12+), so siblings can share one booklet and each find pages at their level. Kids earn the Junior Ranger Cave Scientist title by taking the pledge with a ranger or an educator, so at home that can be you. The booklet itself includes a sticker badge page. If your child would like a real badge, the National Park Service says families can mail the completed booklet in and get back the booklet, a badge and a letter. The mailing address is on the program page.
How to use
- Do a page or two each day during Bat Week (Oct 24–31).
- Pair it with a library book about caves or bats for an easy mini unit study.
- Save the bat-and-moth game for co-op or a sibling group.
- Bring it along to a cave park visit, or take the pledge together at the kitchen table.
Bonus: free 7-page Bat Week activity book from DC DOEE
For a lighter companion, the DC Department of Energy & Environment shares a free 7-page Bat Week activity and coloring book. It has bats in Halloween costumes to color, Big Brown Bat facts and count-and-color pages. Heads-up: the Halloween idioms page (p. 6) includes a few grown-up expressions, so preview it or skip it with younger kids. Several pages are Halloween-costume themed.
