Teaching cursive can feel like a lost art, and a full penmanship curriculum isn’t always in the budget. The good news is you can get your child joining letters with nothing more than a printer and a sharp pencil. Cursive Atlas shares free cursive worksheets PDF pages that walk from basic strokes and single letters all the way to connected words and a full sentence, 38 pages in all.
What’s Included
Every worksheet is a US Letter PDF with a model letter, dotted copies to trace and guide lines to write on:
- Lowercase alphabet a–z (2 pages)
- Uppercase alphabet A–Z (2 pages)
- Basic strokes warm-up with loops, ovals, humps and cups (2 pages)
- Connecting letters, with common pairs and the joining stroke drawn in (2 pages)
- Words and sentences (2 pages)
- Numbers 0–9 (1 page)
- Alphabet chart A–Z to keep beside your paper (1 page)
- 26 one-page letter sheets, one for each letter, with the capital, the lowercase letter, joins and practice words
The style is traditional American school cursive, simplified to a single line. The one-page letter sheets live on each letter’s page on the site, next to an animated version of the letter.
Who It’s For
Whether your child is picking up a pencil for cursive for the first time or just needs to tidy up their joins, there’s a place to start here. The publisher sorts the pages from beginner to fluent: strokes and lowercase letters first, then connecting letters, capitals and numbers, then whole words and a sentence. Lowercase letters match most school programs closely; capitals vary a bit between programs, so if your curriculum teaches a different capital, follow its model.
How to Use It
- Warm up first: start with the basic strokes page before tackling letters.
- Trace, then write: once the dotted copies feel easy, cover the model and write the letter from memory on the blank lines.
- Keep it short: ten or fifteen minutes is plenty. Stop when the letters start to drift and pick up tomorrow.
- Letter of the week: pair a one-page letter sheet with your spelling or phonics list.
- Printing tip: print at 100% (“actual size”) so the guide lines keep their spacing.
