Algebra is often the point where homeschool parents begin to feel a little rusty. It’s hard to check a page of equations when you haven’t solved for x in twenty years. LearnAppu has a set of free algebra worksheets with answer keys that show the work, so you can check answers with confidence and see exactly where your teen went off track.
What’s Included
There are six free worksheet pages, and each has a student copy and a version with the answer key. The problems get harder within each section.
- Two-Step Equations Worksheet (32 problems): one-step, two-step and multi-step equations plus word problems. The key shows the steps for every problem.
- Linear Equations Worksheet (30 problems): slope, writing the equation of a line, converting between forms, parallel and perpendicular lines, and solving linear equations
- Graphing Linear Equations Worksheet (26 problems): graphing lines in slope-intercept, standard and point-slope form, horizontal and vertical lines, and writing the equation from a graph. The key includes the graphs.
- Systems of Equations Worksheet (23 problems): graphing, substitution, elimination, systems with no solution or infinitely many, and word problems
- Solving Inequalities Worksheet (25 problems): one-step, multi-step and compound inequalities, word problems and two-variable graphing. The key shows interval notation and the number-line graph.
- Quadratic Equations Worksheet (29 problems): square roots, factoring, completing the square, the quadratic formula, the discriminant and word problems
That’s 165 problems in all. Each sheet has a header for name, date and period, and blank grids or number lines are printed right on the page where they’re needed.
Who It’s For
Middle and high school students working through Algebra 1 and 2. LearnAppu notes that two-step equations are usually taught in 7th grade and reviewed in 8th grade and Algebra 1, so the two-step page can work for younger students, too. These pages also work well for parents who want a ready answer key without buying a full curriculum.
How to Use It
- Print two versions: print the student copy for your teen and the answer key copy for yourself. The key prints on a separate page.
- Work one section at a time: each worksheet is split into short lettered sections, so one section can be a day’s practice.
- Check the steps, not just the answer: the keys show the work or key step, which helps you spot exactly where a mistake happened.
- Use them for review: pull out the matching worksheet before a test or when you move to the next unit.
