Our family has been making this Putter Finger recipe for years. It was a childhood favorite, and once I started having babies it became a pregnancy favorite! My sister comes to my home births and she always makes a batch of these energy bites for me to eat once the baby has come!
If you need a quick snack during the school day, these are a perfect choice! They taste delicious and are a much healthier choice then store bought snacks.
If you have a milk allergy, I’ve heard of some people using a protein powder instead of the powdered milk. You can get creative with this recipe and add other dried fruit or nuts that sounds good to you.
- ½ cups melted butter
- 3 cups quick oats
- 1 cup honey
- 3 TBSP carob or cocoa powder
- ¾ cup powdered milk
- ½ tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- ½ cup peanut butter
- optional add-ins: ½ cup raisins, ½ cup chocolate or carob chips, ½ cup sunflower seeds.
- (we prefer to add the chocolate chips and sunflower seeds)
Instructions
Combine melted butter and oats in a large bowl. Mix well. Add remaining ingredients and mix week. (A mixer like a Kitchen aid or Bosch works better then doing this by hand). Shape with moist hands into 1 inch balls, or use a 1″ cookie scoop (using the cookie scoop is much faster).
Chill until firm on a cookie sheet with wax paper on it. Store in a closed container in refrigerator.
