I was greatly inspired by homeschool veteran Vicki Bentley and her website Everyday Homemaking. Under her “A Mother’s Sentimental Journey,” she listed a schedule that worked for her family and I gladly tried it out! I’ve made it fit for our family, here’s a look at our 2010-2011 school year. An important fact to remember is in a home education environment, learning is a life style. Whether we’re hitting the books, making a meal, having a conversation, completing a project or having character correction, we’re always learning. Our “school day” goes well beyond the calendar and well beyond when the school buses drive past our house @ 4pm. We do have a high level of flexibility, however having a vision for our time frame for the year is helpful overall. We don’t have to miss school for snow days, teacher workdays, federal holidays, weeks of SOL’s, etc. Even if a child is sick, they can still complete their work at a slower pace for that day. And, if we’re traveling, the books can come too. One of the many benefits to homeschooling, the learning never ends. : )
